Day 21 - Palazzo Ducale and the Rialto Bridge

4:50pm - Venice

Today is Sunday and we learned that the supermarkets close at 1pm.  So, the first thing we did today after breakfast, was go shopping and get food for tonight's dinner. Since we didn't get up very early, that meant that we didn't really hit any sights until lunchtime.  Heh... we're on vacation!

We visited the Palazzo Ducale (Doge's Palace).  They don't let you take pictures inside, but here are some I found to give a sense of what it looked like inside.

The admission also includes a trip the the "new prision" and a trip acros the Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri).

After we finished, we grabbed some gelato and headed off to the Rialto Bridge.  Did I mention that Venice in July is popular?  Everyone wants to go, I guess.   It's also very hot.

After walking around some more, we decided to go back to the apartment, turn on the AC and just rest before dinner.  Lots of folks visiting Venice just look exhausted.  They plop down on stairs or anywhere they can find.  There is a great shortage of public benches or parks in Venice.  It makes it nice to have an apartment to go back to.  Day trippers are either paying to sit in a restaurant or walking around looking hot and tired.

Having a kitchen is nice too.  Katie is making chicken breasts stuffed with prosciutto and cheese for dinner tonight.

We've resolved to get to bed earlier today so that we can hit some sights early tomorrow while it's still cool and before the crowd swells.
