This morning, after breakfast, Katie and I walked it into Monterosso al Mare's old town to buy a small carved turtle she'd seen. I really enjoy the opportunities to do things one-on-one with my kids. Their individual personalities really shine when they are not part of the herd.
After that, it was time to bid farewell to Cinque Terre and for an uneventful 4-hour drive to Lake Como. We stopped at huge super market in Como. That place had everything. I think it's what Costco would look like if it was crossed with a Super WalMart and turned into a shopping center.
We drove up the west shore of the lake until we reached San Siro, just past Menaggio. Then, we started the climb to our apartment, perched up on the hill with a sweeping view of the lake. Even my parking spot had a nice view.
After unloading, it was time to fix dinner. We enjoyed a feast on the patio with the lake at our feet. By the time we'd finished, we were all looking forward to a quiet few days here along Lake Como.
We had a little adventure we we discovered that the wiring in this old building wont support the dishwasher and the clothes washer running at the same time. But a quick call to our landlord in Germany told us how to reset the breaker and properly sequenced, we're back in business cleaning up after ourselves.
No plans for tomorrow set, but then again, that's what life on the lake is supposed to be like.
