Day 13 - Monastery and Mozart

10:15pm - Prague

Today was our last day in Prague.  We had a lazy start to the day.  This being our last day with a washing machine for awhile, we decided to get ahead on laundry.  There was some down time in the morning.

In the afternoon, we visited Strahov Monastery.  We toured the library and it was very impressive.

and after a light snack at the brewery there, we walked down to the Lesser Town and enjoyed a different vista of Prague and Prague Castle on the way.

Towards the bottom of the hill, we passed a number of embassies... include the United States'

It was nice to see a bit of home in a far away land.  I would have taken more pictures, but I was afraid of standing out too much or looking like I was casing the place, so I just snapped a quick one while the family was walking in front of it.  They didn't even notice that they'd walked in front of our own embassy until I told them later.

After a home cooked dinner in the apartment, it was time to get ready to go to the performance.  We put on the nicest clothes we could manage from what we packed and hoped we didn't stand out too much

We need not have worried.  We were fine.

Our plan to get there early paid off.  The seating is "open" within the price range of the ticket you buy.  We bought the VIP tickets and got in the door first.  We were shown to a box large enough for all five of us which we enjoyed all to ourselves for the performance.  The performance was held in the Estates Theatre (Stavovské divadlo) which I mentioned a couple posts ago was where Mozart's Don Giovanni was first performed.  It is a beautiful old theatre and it was a privilege to attend a performace in it and sit in such prime spots!

We enjoyed the concert immensely... even Elodie, our youngest said she liked it, but that it was "a little loud" sometimes.  I think it helped that it was only 45 minutes long.

After the concert ended, we strolled back to our apartment.  Along the way, we detoured through Wenceslas Square.  We had not visited it before, even though it is very close to the apartment because we knew it would be very brass and touristy... but it's part of the Prague experience so it seemed right to stroll through it on our last night here and just take it all in.  We bought some trdelník from a street vendor -- and then liked it so much we bought some more.  It was a nice ending to our evening.

Tomorrow morning we pack up and drive to Munich.
