Day 7 - Flight to Germany

11:30am - Copenhagen Airport

Travel day today. We're flying from Copenhagen to Munich today. Just when I was starting to figure out Copenhagen, it's time to move on. We'll be picking up our car in Munich and pointing it towards the Czech Republic.

Tonight, we overnight in Deggendorf before heading to Cesky Krumlov tomorrow.

Walking to the metro this morning, I was struck by how grown up my kids look. They don't seem phased by the strangeness of a different country at all.

Maybe that's because kids are used to not understanding things anyway and are already constantly adapting anyway.

10:05pm - Deggendorf

The flight in from Copenhagen was uneventful.  We landed and picked up our leased car, a brand new Renault Kangoo.

The short-term lease program is pretty cool.  They sent a driver to meet us at the airport in our car, drove us to their offices to sign paperwork and we were good to go.  I got my first autobahn driving experience driving over to Deggendorf from MUC.  I'd picked Deggendorf because it's roughly in the right direction as the Czech Republic (where we're headed tomorrow) and it looked easy to get to.  We'll be back in Germany in a week or so to do Germany justice.  Today it's been about getting the car and getting the road trip started.

That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel where we're staying and the town in general.  We have two connecting rooms with rooftop balconies.  They're very spacious.

After setting in, Laura, the girls and I walked over to the town center, found a quiet table and enjoyed some of the local fare... it was good.

I could get to like this. :-)

Tomorrow, I have an appointment to get an emission sticker on the car so we can drive into the center of Munich when we come back on Sunday.  Between that and the various vignettes different countries require for driving on the roads, the car is going to be very decorated by the time we turn it back in in Paris in 3 weeks.

After errands in town tomorrow morning, it's off to Český Krumlov.
