Day 8 - Into the Czech Republic

9:15pm - Český Krumlov

This morning stated relatively early back in Deggendorf.  I got up and took the car out to a to a TÜV SÜD service center near where we were staying to get an emissions sticker for the car.  Apparently, next Sunday when I drive it back into Germany and into the center of Munich, I'll need the sticker or risk getting a ticket.

I'd made the appointment for the sticker in advance on the web before we left.  [Have I mentioned that I love the internet?] I showed up a little early, waited my turn and when I managed to explain what I wanted, the tech took one look at my registration card, went inside scribbled my license plate on the sticker and gave it to me.
My new windshield decoration.
I tried to pay him for it and he said that that was not necessary.  I left after being there less than 10 minutes.

Back at the hotel, it was time for a pastry breakfast, including some sort of pretzel/cheese/meat thing that was a big hit.  We finally hit the road around noon.

Driving through the Bavarian countryside is alot like driving through Wisconsin.  Lots of farms and fields, gentle rolling hills.  Laura felt right at home.

We got to Český Krumlov around 3pm.  My advance Google Maps work paid off.  I knew exactly where to drive to get to our parking lot and where to check in to get our apartment.  No small feat when navigating the twisting, turning roads of a medieval fortress town.

The kids are pretty adept at carrying their own bags.  That's working out well.

Our apartment is a spacious, 2-bedroom flat on the top floor of a building right at the castle gate in the inner pedestrian zone.  It's very nice to be so close to everything.

After dropping our stuff, we hustled up to the castle and did the museum and tower tour.  That was pretty cool.  We were treated to awesome views of the town from the top of the tower.

After finishing the museum tour, we got some local cash and we went in search of dinner.  We didn't research it much, so we settled on Hotel Dvořák terrace.  It was pleasant and we enjoyed our dinner.

Tomorrow, the plan is to do the castle interior early and then after lunch try to line up a river raft ride through town.
